TEN GREEN BOTTLES

Packaging - Innovative Packaging

Reinventing the wheel might have proved a step too far, but the traditional wine bottle is another matter. Traditional wine bottles are made of glass proving bulky and fragile, a tricky mix in a world where so much is home delivered by couriers.  A young company called Garçon Wines has tackled this issue head on.  They have designed an innovative flat plastic wine bottle. Of course, they have dealt with the environmental concerns by using 100% recycled PET. The bottle and label are cleverly designed to mimic a traditional wine bottle.

Breaking with convention is always a huge risk, especially something as emotionally embedded in the consumers mind as a wine bottle.  They have done two clever things, firstly they have kept many of the key elements that attract us to buy, such as the all-important label and the bottle colours depending on the wine type.  Secondly, they have designed for a purpose, not for gimmick value. The bottles are a courier and shelf stackers dream, not lighter particularly, but easy to stack, space saving and easy to handle.  Waste is reduced, shelf space increased and yet the product can easily merge into a wine section without standing out as odd.

Taking this project forward from many angles has made it a design winner, topped off with the innovative transit packaging that makes up the final piece of this clever jigsaw.  They have invented both a bottle and suitable packing to allow the wine to be posted safely through a standard letter box, allowing them to expand into the vastly profitable gifting market.  Their latest innovative ten bottle carrier provides yet another market expansion opportunity.

Packaging is not just about the outer carton but every element.  It is so important to look at any project from every angle, not just basing it on the assumed end user. Well designed attractive packaging, thought through, can allow you to reach new markets or bridge the gap from old school to cutting edge.
