THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

Packaging - Maximising the Benefits

Do not think outside the box but think about the outside of the box.

A product has been made with packaging to protect the item formed and the perfect fitted box sourced. What is missing? The external design on the box. A box is an advertisement not to be missed.  Of course, those with an attractive product for retail should spend a great deal of time designing the item’s packaging to ensure shelf appeal, but perhaps for those where the box goes business to business often overlook the value of unprinted spaces.  (For more information on Packaging Artwork click here) Plain brown cardboard boxes can be so much more. Why not shout about the brand using all that visible space.

Having the boxes printed is one method or applying an attractive self-adhesive label or a wrap band could make far more of that wasted space, look more appealing.  The box could even be used to advertise other products in the range.

It is clear that whilst in transit a box may need to be anonymous, so print on the inside of the packaging instead. We see more and more products where the inside of the container is used as much as the outside, such as soups in plastic tubs.

By designing an external print that will encourage reuse of the box, it can help tick off an environmental goal. Examples of this could be a simple child’s toy box which could then be coloured in. Make your box shout out from the crowd, even if the content is not destined for an elegant retail shelf. Brands are there to be remembered, not forgotten. Keep yours alive.
